Flutist Samuel Baron (1925-1997) was a founding member of the New York Woodwind Quintet, and appeared as soloist with noted orchestras and on recordings. Baron championed new music, too, and gave premieres of works by Barber, Blackwood, Boulez, Brant, Korte, Kupferman, Laderman, and Riegger.
